My name is Dana Nagle, and I am the owner and dweller of Big Spring Herb Gardens. I fell in love with both herbal medicine and organic gardening in 1996 with both my work at a primitive living skills camp and employment for a small, family- run bed and breakfast with lovely organic cottage gardens. My dream of growing medicinal Chinese herbs was born not long after my work with plants and gardening began. Since then, I have been cultivating my skills both in the garden and the herb room through a variety of work experiences, studying with many wise and learned plant people, and engaging with countless medicine-making projects.
I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Studies, focusing on Environmental Education, from Warren Wilson College. I am passionate about studying humans' relationship with the earth and all the elements, and I choose to live closely with the seasons and their elemental forces. I hold no degrees in Traditional Chinese Medicine, but my family has been engaged with TCM for over a decade, including an extended stay in a TCM teaching hospital in China for my sister's treatment of her traumatic brain injury. I have studied informally with a plethora of herbalists, practitioners and growers to acquire the knowledge base I need for the cultivation of the species which are my focus here.
I have completed AB Tech's GMP for Natural Supplements course, and have steps in progress toward compliance. I have also received training in post-harvest handling of herbs, and I have cross-referenced numerous texts in establishing my methodology for formulating the xiao yao san tincture which is my main area of focus.
